A.B.S. | Grades 9 and 10

> concentrated focus program offered in grade 9 and 10

> offered as 2 distinct options - Athletics ( Health & Wellness ) or Business

> leads to the Specialist High Skills Major ( SHSM ) in grades 11 and 12

> allows you to participate in Experiential Learning Activities that prepare you for your future chosen pathway



Specialist High Skills Major | Grades 11 & 12

> offered as 2 distinct options - Athletics ( Health & Wellness ) or Business

> 2 year program ( grades 11 and 12 ) approved by the Ministry of Education

> can be pursued at the same time as the Ontario Secondary School Diploma ( OSSD )

> prepares you to make a smooth transition to life after high school, regardless of the destination

Successful completion of an SHSM is indicated on the student's Ontario Student Transcript and on the student's OSSD by a red seal.

What are the advantages of the S.H.S.M. Program?

> University and college applications will ask if you have completed an S.H.S.M.

> Customize your high school education to suit your interests and talents while earning your OSSD

> Gain recognized certifications and training recognized by prospective employers and colleges/ universities

> Participate in planned experiential learning activities- outside of the traditional classroom setting eg. job shadowing, worksite tours, attendance at conferences or competitions

> Cooperative education -authentic learning experiences in a workplace setting where you can apply your skills and knowledge

> Develop and build a foundation of essential skills and work habits documented in the Ontario Skills Passport eg. teamwork, job task planning and organizing, problem solving, scheduling

> Experience 'Reach Ahead" activities which will help you gain confidence in making informed choices about your future career eg. interviewing employees, college or university students

> Access resources, equipment and expertise that may not be available in our high school


 

How do you apply for the A.B.S. Program?

> Fill out the Application Form found in the Guidance Office

> Type you 'Essay Response" to the two questions in Section Five

> Submit the above to the Guidance Office by February 23rd, 2010.
